Each trophy is individual and unique in its form since each of the awardees is also unique

This work belongs to my series ‘Loops’ and is a metaphor for life: it suggests a continuation, movement, and transformation. At the beginning of the series, a copper pipe was a ‘found object’, which I manipulated until I found beauty in the line and form. In addition, I assembled material of a different nature that appeared to continue the drawing in space. The base of  ‘Copper Loop V’ is presented as a metaphor for the path that you have to circumvent in life: it is not linear and does not offer shortcuts. Also, the shape suggests a ‘W’ for Women, the ‘W’ in AWA DANCE with its associated characteristic purple color.

I manipulated a copper pipe until it spoke to me of an interesting and beautiful curve that suggested movement and a subtle dance of line in space. Once happy with the shape, I assembled the base to the metal and applied resin in a ‘W’ shape. After sanding to a beautiful organic finish I proceeded to carve the trophy’s motto into the resin, using handwritten letters, and carefully applied copper leaf onto the carved letters. Finally, I painted the piece in a textured purple and applied a protective varnish layer to the exposed copper.

The base of the ’Loops’ is that path that you have to circumvent in life: it is not linear and does not offer shortcuts.
