The Koh-i-Noor (which is the name of a famous diamond as well as a Persian translation of ‘Mountain of Light’) visually references in this work of art, the transformation of the rough diamond into a diamond with numerous beautiful facets after having been polished and makes a conceptual reference to the artists that we were selected in the residency and who had time and space to create and polish the idea (the diamond) that each one of us had inside.
It belongs to my project ‘Conversation with the Building’, which was conceived of and completed at the Prairie Center of the Arts in Peoria, Illinois, where I spent three months as an artist-in-residence. The project consists of several site-specific installations that converse with architectural elements in the amazing attic of the old brick studio building (120 years old) that served as a rope factory until the 1970s.
