ABOUT THIS WORK:

‘Reply to a Valentine’s’ is an autobiographical work that responds to a personal situation with my current partner. It is a reply that expresses the doubts and uncertainties related to sharing life together.

The cover of the card depicts a labyrinth as a metaphor for life and although here it is presented as a lace emboss, with its positive connotations, it is still a labyrinth in its structure and therefore full of contradictory paths, where one can easily feel desperate and lost.

This work has been inspired by the collection of Victorian paper lace valentines cards at the Wardown House Museum in Luton (Bedfordshire), to which I had access at the beginning of November 2021.
